Sparkasse KölnBonn Friedensplatz

The Friedensplatz location in Bonn has a long tradition for the Sparkasse – the financial institution has been based here since 1913. One hundred years later, the new building of the KölnBonn Sparkasse has been constructed at this location as a sustainable and energy-efficient administrative and commercial building.

The building was awarded the DGNB Gold certificate in 2014. From the outset, a particularly efficient and well-balanced energy concept played an important role, together with ecological and social aspects. The award of the DGNB certificate included checking a total of 53 sustainability criteria. In total, all aspects contributed to an exemplary overall picture, made up of modernity, value recovery and also the special responsibility towards the customers, the employees, the environment and the important location in the heart of Bonn.

The building is supplied by renewable geothermal and solar energy, supplemented by district heating. The Sparkasse branch is characterised by a particularly high-quality daylight concept; the focus is on the comfort of the employees and customers. The offices and the social rooms are characterised by high thermal comfort with low energy consumption at the same time, as well as by having access to a variety of attractive roof gardens and spacious windows with impressive views of the historical roofscape.

Natural stone façades and concrete ceilings serve as a storage mass. All ceilings are thermally activated. Pitched acoustic panels effectively reduce the reverberation period. Decentralised ventilation devices provide each room with air and heat exactly as required. The solar protection reflects the daylight into the depth of the room and at the same time protects against overheating.

The Sparkasse building in Friedensplatz embodies the way we from IPJ imagine the future of building: modern, elegant, reserved, and at the same time consistent with the protection of the environment and the appreciation of its residents, customers and employees.
