Montforthaus Feldkirch, Vorarlberg
The Montforthaus in Feldkirch is an event building in Vorarlberg where up to 3,000 people can attend concerts and conferences in a special ambience. The building is located on the edge of the Old Town of Feldkirch, directly facing Schattenburg.
Rarely is there so much agreement in the perception that a building is particularly beautiful and successful, as with Montforthaus. The building shape, the exterior and interior, the quality of the hall and the foyer, the lighting – everything has been planned and carried out with heart and mind.
On behalf of the City of Feldkirch, the architect partnership of Hascher Jehle in Berlin and Mitiska Wäger in Bludenz took over the task of creating a substitute for the event building from the 1970s that was not to be renovated. The architects have not only solved this task with flying colours, but they have also kept to the given cost limit.
The energy concept is multi-layered. The energy certification of the building corresponds to Class A. The geothermal heat pump, which extracts heat and cold from the river flowing past, is supplemented with district heating. The concert hall is equipped with the latest generation of LED lighting – which can be dimmed from 100 to 0 percent, allowing an infinitely variable control of the brightness. Extremely efficient ventilation systems supply the interior. In summer, the foyer additionally becomes naturally ventilated by automatically controlled façade flaps and thereby cooled.
The largest electric consumers are administered in their energy management according to the demands of the Smart Grid. The energy concept is based on the Jung principle “Energy follows People”; this means that air, light and heat follow the public flow. In this way, a demand-driven energy supply is achieved with minimal use of resources.
